The Advisory Team
We partner collaboratively with clients to build, expand, and secure their companies, products, and capabilities. We assess market opportunities to develop offerings at the outset, facilitate partnerships, and assess risks as things scale—all while providing ongoing confidence that everything will be compliant from beginning to end. Our team understands intimately how to effectively develop, scale, and comply because we have helped clients do so time and again. This role is part of the Licensing group within the Advisory team which works with clients to acquire and maintain state licenses as well as work strategically with clients to grow and scale its regulated businesses and products.
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare and compile state license applications and other filings, covering money transmission, lending, loan brokering, collections, and other state registrations and license types.
- Organize application documentation including but not limited to scanning and storage.
- Prepare foreign qualifications, periodic reports, renewals, and ongoing compliance filings.
- Prioritize, prepare, and send correspondence to client, state/federal regulators, and third-party vendors.
- Track informational requests between clients and state and federal regulators. Ability to work and maintain client documentation in a web-based interface to manage workflow and various tasks.
- Manage filing of records.
- Review and analyze regulatory notifications in and outside of the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System (NMLS) and other state portals.
- Prepare materials and participate in internal and external meetings.
- Must be available to report in-office at least three days per week in our Chicago office.
- Effectively report and communicate updates to management.
- Other duties as assigned.
What we are looking for in a colleague
- Strong experience with the acquisition and maintenance of money transmission, lending, and/or mortgage licenses.
- Experience with or a focused interest in acting as an advisor to innovative financial services companies.
- Knowledge of the banking system, including a variety of lending, deposit, payments, and/or blockchain and digital asset products and services.
- Knowledge of financial services laws and regulations, such as those related to money transmitters, lenders, and/or de novo bank charters.
- Understanding of best practices applicable to the state licensing process.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance, including financial crimes compliance (AML and sanctions), consumer protection, and fair lending.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive and engaged self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to contribute to the growth of our business.
- Ability to travel occasionally (~10%), primarily to our headquarters in Washington, DC or to clients (primarily San Francisco Bay Area or New York City).
Principal Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience
- 2 years office administrative, legal, compliance, financial services, regulatory and/or licensing experience is a plus
- Ability to manage and execute on a high volume of client deliverables related to license acquisition and maintenance.
- Strong aptitude for technology driven solutions.
- Must have proficiency using PDF software, strong Microsoft Excel experience, and working proficiency using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint. Nationwide Multistate Licensing System (NMLS) as well as state regulatory portal experience is a plus.
- Strong organization and project management skills, and excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to effectively interface with various levels of personnel is critical. Must be able to work independently and in a team setting.
- Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Desire to build subject matter expertise in the Fintech space.
